New book available

Life and Times in Victorian Weardale by Frank Sanderson is available from the Weardale Gazette shop, priced £9.95 + P&P =£11.45.  This book has resulted from the author’s fascination with his paternal ancestors, hill farmers from Weardale.  A family historian for more than 30 years, Frank came into the possession of a series of letters written by his Victorian cousin, Francis Vickers of Stanhope to his cousins George and Thomas Vickers who migrated from Stanhope to Ontario in the early Victorian period.  The book also refers to the coming of the railways, schooldays, Primitive Methodism, founding the Stanhope School Board and lots of other topics.  If you wish to buy a copy, please send a cheque for £11.45 payable to: Weardale Publishing and post to: Weardale Gazette, 6 Market Place, Stanhope, Co. Durham, DL13 2UJ.
